Noise emitted from a generic side-view mirror with different aspect ratios and inclinations

Noise radiated from flow past different configurations of the half-round mirror (HRM) mounted on a plate has been investigated using computational aeroacoustics (CAA). The stress-blended eddy simulation (SBES), together with Ffowcs Williams–Hawkings (FW–H) acoustic analogy, was employed to predict near-field and far-field noise, respectively. numerical methodology verified validated for standard HRM case against several previously published experimental data sets, which provides good agreement. Further, (i) choice type grids CAA (ii) applicability methods such as Kirchhoff integral FW–H near field inputs computed SBES were assessed. As next step, effect induced noise (a) aspect ratios (AR) ranging 1 2.5 (b) inclination toward (θ) 0° 32° investigated. For all cases, distribution exhibits dipole-like structure closer monopole-like away plate. By inclining mounting plate, emitted is reduced both in vertical lateral directions wake, whereas an increase AR increases considerably. findings current study can provide deeper understanding effectively mitigating aerodynamic side-view mirrors.
